Soft, Medium or Firm?
Firmness is the most personal call you’ll make — and the one people get wrong most. The right feel depends on how you sleep and how your body settles in. Here’s how to think about it.
There’s no single “best” firmness. As a rule of thumb: side sleepers lean soft–medium, back sleepers lean medium–firm, and stomach sleepers lean firm. Your body weight shifts it too — the same bed feels firmer to a lighter person and softer to a heavier one. The goal is a spine that stays straight with no pressure points. The only way to know your number is to lie on it, which is exactly what we help you do — free — at any of our 6 Saskatchewan stores.
What Soft, Medium and Firm Actually Mean.
Firmness isn’t about quality — it’s about how far you sink and how your weight is carried.
Cushioned & Cradling
You sink in and feel hugged.
A soft mattress lets your shoulders and hips settle deeper, which relieves pressure where your weight concentrates. The trade-off is less “on top” support, so it can feel like more effort to move or get out of bed.
Best forSide sleepers, lighter bodies, and anyone with shoulder or hip pressure pain.
The Balanced Middle
Some give, plenty of support.
Medium is the most popular feel because it works for the most people: enough cushion for pressure relief, enough support to keep your spine in line. If you switch positions through the night, this is usually the safe pick.
Best forBack sleepers, combination sleepers, couples, and most first-time buyers.
Supportive & Stable
You sleep more “on top” than “in.”
A firm mattress keeps you lifted and your hips from sinking, which protects spinal alignment. The trade-off is less cushion at pressure points, so it can feel hard if your weight is concentrated on a small area.
Best forStomach sleepers, heavier bodies, and people who want a planted, supported feel.
Start With How You Sleep.
A starting point — not a rule. Your weight and what your body likes still decide the final pick.

Firmness Is a Feeling. We Make It Data.
Two people lie on the same bed and completely disagree — because firmness is about how far your body sinks in, not a label. A “medium” can feel firm to one person and soft to another.
So we don’t guess. Our free in-store Discovery Experience maps where you carry pressure and shows you the firmness that keeps your spine aligned — then you feel it for yourself before you decide.

Quick Answers.
What we hear most on the showroom floor.
What firmness is best?
It depends on how you sleep and your body type. Side sleepers lean soft–medium, back sleepers medium–firm, stomach sleepers firm. The only sure test is lying on it.
Is firm or soft better for back pain?
Most back-pain sufferers do best on medium-firm — aligned spine, with enough give for pressure relief. Too soft and your hips sink; too firm and your pressure points take all the load.
Why does the same bed feel different to me and my partner?
Firmness is about how far you sink in, so your weights change the feel. A “medium” can read firm to a lighter person and soft to a heavier one.
What if we want different firmness?
A Split King — two mattresses on one frame, each its own firmness. Add an adjustable base and each side raises independently too.
