Twin Mattress FAQs
Twin and single refer to the exact same mattress size: 38″ wide by 75″ long. The terms are completely interchangeable. You’ll see both used depending on the store or region. If you’re shopping in Saskatchewan, both mean the same thing.
A standard twin is 38″×75″ and a twin XL is 38″×80″, the same width, but the XL is 5 inches longer. Twin XL is better suited for taller teens and young adults. Two twin XL mattresses placed side by side also create a split king configuration for couples with different sleep preferences.
A twin mattress is typically a good fit for children ages 3 and up who have transitioned from a toddler bed, all the way through to teens up to about 5’9″. For taller teens and young adults, a twin XL gives 5 extra inches of length and can be a better long-term choice. Our consultants can help you find the right option for your child.
Yes. Standard twin mattresses (38″×75″) are the most common size for bunk beds and are designed to fit the vast majority of bunk frames on the market. Always check your bunk bed’s maximum mattress height specification. Most bunk beds recommend a mattress no thicker than 6–8 inches for safety reasons. Our team can help you find the right option.
