Split Top Sleep Systems in Saskatchewan.
One of you needs the head up. The other wants to lie flat. A Split Top lets each of you set your own angle on one continuous mattress. Only the top third splits; from the waist down it’s one bed you still share.
All three Split Top Systems are set up on the floor at every one of our six Saskatchewan stores.
Complete systems from $4,894 · 0% financing for 12 months, on approved credit ($90 admin fee) · Free front-door delivery in our store cities
You go to bed together. You just want to.
You want to read. They want to sleep. One of you snores, deals with acid reflux, or has circulation that needs a little elevation, and the other just wants to lie flat. On a standard King, you’re stuck with one shared angle, and somebody always loses.
You also don’t want to buy two mattresses to solve it, because you actually like sharing a bed. The Split Top System is built for that: one mattress on a base where only the top third splits, so each of you gets your own head angle while the rest of the bed stays one continuous surface. You’re still lying next to each other. You’re just finally sleeping the way each of you needs.
Real problems. What actually helps.
Couples across Saskatchewan walk into Modern Mattress with these exact issues. Here’s what a Split Top System does about them, without buying two mattresses. If any of these is a medical concern, talk to your doctor as well.
- Snoring. A head-up angle is the change our guests mention most. Raise one side; sleep flat on the other side of the same mattress.
- Acid reflux. Hold the head-up angle your doctor suggests, every night, without a pillow tower, and your partner doesn’t have to sleep on the same angle.
- A stiff lower back. Guests most often describe a slight head-and-foot lift as taking the load off. Your partner can stay flat if that’s what works for them.
- Tired legs at the end of the day. Feet-up elevation, properly supported instead of propped on cushions. Your side lifts; their side doesn’t.
- Late-night reading, TV, or laptop. You sit up at 45° without stacking pillows. They sleep flat without a screen in their face.
- Getting in and out of bed. Easier when you can raise your head and feet first. Temporary or long-term, the base adapts to you.
- CPAP comfort. Bring the head position your doctor recommends and we’ll set the base up around it while your partner’s side stays flat.

Split Top vs. Split King: they are not the same.
A Split King is two separate Twin XL mattresses side by side. Pick any two from the same collection and they’re built to the same height, so they pair flush. But it’s still two mattresses, and each side gets independent head and foot elevation. A Split Top is one mattress with a partial cut in the top third, so head angle is independent per side and the rest of the bed is one continuous surface. One mattress instead of two. That’s the real difference.
| Feature | Split Top (this base) | Split King |
|---|---|---|
| One shared mattress | ✓ | × |
| One continuous surface from the waist down | ✓ | × |
| Independent head elevation | ✓ | ✓ |
| One mattress instead of two | ✓ | × |
| Fully independent foot elevation | × | ✓ |
Your side. Their side. Still your bed.
You each get full control of your own head angle, without splitting the mattress in two or sleeping in separate beds.
One Mattress, Not Two
Your mattress sits on the base in one piece. Only the top third has the split that enables independent elevation. From the waist down it’s one continuous surface.
Independent Head Elevation Per Side
Each side elevates 0–60° completely independently. One person sits up to read; the other sleeps flat. The motor for each side operates without affecting the other.
Wireless Remote Per Side
Two wireless remotes included, one for each partner. Each controls only their side. No sharing, no accidentally changing the other person’s angle.
Zero-Gravity Preset Per Side
Each remote has a one-tap zero-gravity preset that elevates head and foot simultaneously for pressure relief. Both sides can be in zero-gravity at the same time, or different positions.
Whisper-Quiet Motor
The motors are designed to operate without disturbing the other side. When one partner adjusts their angle at midnight, the other keeps sleeping.
Split Top King Mattress Compatible
Works with Split Top King mattresses available at Modern Mattress: Classic, Signature, and Artisan Split Top. We carry these in store at all 6 locations.
All the control. None of the trade-offs.
The Split Top Adjustable Base removes the friction that comes from two people sharing a flat, fixed surface.
- You read at 45°, they sleep flat, and neither one wakes the other when adjusting positions.
- One mattress rather than two. From the waist down it’s one continuous surface you share.
- Independent head control on each side, on a single mattress instead of a pair. (If you want independent foot elevation too, that’s the Split King.)
- One of you sets a head-up angle; the other sleeps flat. One base handles both at once. If snoring or reflux is a medical concern, talk to your doctor as well.
- Zero-gravity on both sides at the same time for evenings when you both just want to decompress after a long day.

What 2,200+ Google reviewers are saying.
4.9★ on Google, based on 2,200+ Google reviews across all Modern Mattress locations
Guests who share a bed with a partner describe the Split Top as a turning point. The most common theme: one person reads or watches TV while the other falls asleep, and neither one wakes the other when settling or adjusting.
Customers who considered a Split King and chose the Split Top instead usually point to the same thing: they wanted independent head control without buying two mattresses. From the waist down it stays one continuous surface.
Guests dealing with snoring, reflux or a stiff back tell us the independent head elevation is the practical part: one side up, the other flat, and no fighting over the remote. It isn’t medical care; those conversations belong with a doctor.
Come in together. Lie down on it together.
Book the free 30-minute Discovery Experience, or just walk in. Every Split Top System is set up so the two of you can lie down the way you actually sleep, with one of you reading and the other flat. FAQ
A Split King is two separate Twin XL mattresses side by side. Pick any two from the same collection and they’re built to the same height, so the halves pair flush, and each side gets independent head and foot elevation. A Split Top is one mattress with a cut in the top third, so head angle is independent per side and the rest of the bed is one continuous surface. If what you want is one mattress rather than two, Split Top is the one.
No. The Split Top is sold only as a complete system: the base paired with a Split Top King mattress. That’s because a regular King mattress won’t work on this base. The split in the top third only works if the mattress is made for it, which is why we pair it with a matched Classic, Signature, or Artisan Split Top mattress. Pop in to any of our 6 Saskatchewan stores and we’ll walk both of you through how the pairing actually feels.
Yes. Each remote has a one-tap zero-gravity preset that works independently. Both sides can be in zero-gravity simultaneously, or one side can be elevated while the other stays flat. It is entirely up to each sleeper.
Split Top Systems come in Queen and King. King is where the independent-top design shines most for couples, but the Queen systems on this page are real, in-stock builds. If you want fully independent head and foot elevation on each side, the Split King System is usually the better fit. Swing by in store and we’ll show you both, side by side, so you can feel the difference before you decide.
A Split Top Sleep System is one mattress on a base where only the top third splits. Each partner can raise their head independently with a wireless remote, so one of you can sit at 45° to read while the other lies flat to sleep, all on one continuous surface from the waist down. It is one mattress instead of two.
Modern Mattress carries all three Split Top Sleep Systems (Classic, Signature, and Artisan) on the showroom floor at six Saskatchewan locations: Saskatoon North, Saskatoon Rosewood, Regina Prince of Wales, Modern Mattress Regina Outlet, Moose Jaw, and Yorkton. Every system is set up so couples can lie down and try it together.
Complete Split Top Systems at Modern Mattress start at $4,894 for the Classic Split Top System, $5,194 for the Signature Split Top System, and $6,894 for the Artisan Split Top System. 0% financing for 12 months is available through Flexiti, on approved credit, with a one-time $90 admin fee. Front-door delivery is free within city limits of any of our 6 stores.
A head-up angle is the change our guests mention most when snoring or reflux comes up, and with a Split Top System only one side has to elevate, so your partner can still sleep flat on the same bed. It is not a medical treatment; if snoring or reflux is a medical concern, talk to your doctor.
Front-door delivery is free within city limits of any of our 6 stores. Want it carried in and set up? Add $59 for in-home setup, or $99 VIP for setup plus old-mattress removal. Outside our store cities but within 100 km, delivery is a flat $99. Beyond that we quote it in store.
